      Saad Rahman, Former Group Managing Partner

      Global, Kenya

      Prior to Amani Partners, Saad was a Managing Director with Credit Agricole CIB, based in both Bahrain and Dubai. He joined Credit Agricole CIB Bahrain in September 2005, to help establish the new Islamic banking team. He headed the team from Sept 2012 to March 2015 and had a global mandate focusing on origination, new product development, and structuring for the bank's Corporate and Investment Banking clients. Saad was a member of the Gulf’s Management Committee responsible for implementing the Bank’s global strategy.

       

      Before joining Credit Agricole, in London Saad worked for both HSBC Holdings Plc in the Global Credit Dept with responsibility for Africa, Middle East and Turkey and at HSBC Investment Bank. After this, he was was posted to Dubai HSBC Middle East, where he worked for HSBC's Islamic Unit, HSBC Amanah.

       

      While at Credit Agricole, Saad was a member of various committees including the Task Force of the Hong Kong Monetary Agency looking at Islamic Finance. He also served as a board member of the International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM), Bahrain looking at the global development of standardised Islamic Capital Market products.

       

      Saad has a B.A. in Economics from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada and an M.B.A. from London Business School.

      John Brittell, Managing Partner

      Uganda

      Prior to Amani Partners, in late 2014, John set up a boutique strategic business and investment advisory firm in Kampala, Uganda targeting the food and agriculture sector. The advisory firm sought out three clients: Investment Funds, SME’s, and NGO’s.

       

      Prior to Capitol Food Ventures (U) LTD, John worked with the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) managing and conducting due diligence for a large Agriculture trade facility. He also worked extensively with USAID’s Development Credit Authority (DCA) developing innovative financial products for emerging markets. Prior to his graduate school work, he managed financial resources for large NGO’s in housing, media, broadcasting, and development.

       

      John has a B.A. in Agricultural Resource Economics and Statistics from the University of California at Davis, an MBA in International Finance from the George Washington University School of Business, and an MA in International Economic Policy from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs in Washington, DC.

      Aaron Jay Fossett, Managing Partner

      New York

      Jay is a business advisor with 15 years of experience providing investment and business theses, growth strategy, operations setup, funding and project structuring for infrastructure, agriculture and technology investments. Jay is managing principal of Fossett & Associates, an advisory firm supporting entrepreneurs, corporations, investors and government clients in the US, Europe and emerging markets.

       

      Prior to Fossett & Associates, Jay was VP of Corporate Affairs for a privately held technology company in New York principally involved in transportation infrastructure, where he expanded the company into international markets through technology transfer agreements, acquisitions and strategic partnerships with investors and governments. Prior to this, Jay was senior advisor to the King County Executive (Seattle). Jay’s work included, funding for large scale infrastructure projects and work with Congress and the administration on legislation and initiation of a metropolitan economic and investment caucus.

       

      Jay’s current portfolio includes investment prioritization and economic sequencing for sovereign entities; management and structuring of early stage technology businesses, P3 vehicles and similar project investment entities, and blended finance structuring and execution strategy.

      Jay’s diversified background and work intersects with geopolitics, environmental, social and economic investment and business strategies particularly in emerging and other geographically critical areas. Jay has participated in panels and speaking engagements at the African Union, US and London based emerging market investment conferences among other events and maintains working relationships with several development organizations like the World Bank, OPIC, DFID, Swedfund several UN groups and others. He has served/serves on several boards including Africa 2.0, TMM (a nanotech firm), Boys and Girls Club of America, Washington Conservation Voters and others. Jay also has a background in botany and studied music at Peabody Music School in Baltimore, Maryland.

      James Serugo, Board Member

      Uganda

      “Jimmy” is a Board Member for Amani Partners in Kampala, Uganda. He brings a wealth of experience and expansive business networks in the Uganda market. He currently serves as a Board member of the Monitor Publications (subsidiary of Nation Media, Kenya) and has his own book publishing firm called Net Media Publishers. Among his current activities includes being the co-Founder of the CEO Summit Uganda which prepares the next generation of leadership for corporates in Uganda. As well, he is the Founder of the League of East African Directors (LEAD) which brings together local talent to share best practices and learn from each other.

       

      Prior to Amani Partners, Jimmy was the Business Director of The Monitor Publications where he managed the financial, commercial and production aspects of the business. During his tenure, he spearheaded the divestiture of the company to bring in a strategic investor, the Nation Media Group, in 2002.

       

      Jimmy has co–authored several books on entrepreneurship and the dangers of HIV/ AIDS and also mentored the Youth. He is an executive coach by trade.

       

      He attended post graduate training in Journalism via Thomson Foundation at Cardiff University in Wales, UK in 1990 and he is a Rotarian and Past President of the Rotary Club of Kampala.

      Tommy Ogwang, Company Secretary, Legal Counsel

      Uganda

      Tommy is a Partner at Orima & Co. based in Kampala, Uganda. He is in charge of the Corporate Practice specializing in Private Equity. He has gained experience in advising companies across numerous sectors including agro-processing, insurance, and pharmaceuticals.

       

      Tommy has advised one of the leading renewable energy funds on its entry into Uganda, including its acquisition of mini-hydro power plants. Previously, he was at MMAKS Advocates in the corporate advisory practice.

       

      He received an LLB from Makerere University Kampala and a Diploma in Law from the Law Development Centre.
